Attendance

Many WHA students struggled with attendance in 2024 at WHS. However, 12 new White Hawk students' attendance have increased compared to the start of the 2024 school year. For example, three students who struggled with attendance at WHS have increased their attendance by nearly 11%, 12%, and 15% in the first quarter alone. Two new White Hawk students even had perfect attendance.

WHA students have worked very hard to achieve better attendance and better grades. We have seven students that have perfect attendance which is more than a third of students. At White Hawk we also have six students that have a 96% or greater attendance. Here at White Hawk, we have had zero discipline referrals at this point in the year.

Overnight Trip

Some WHA students are extremely interested in visiting the colleges in Laramie, Cheyenne, and Casper. This would be an overnight trip. We would like to have the opportunity to visit those colleges in person to know if they are a good match for us. Our goal is to hopefully visit the colleges in November or December. Visiting the college in person gives us a view of how things work and how the environment feels.

Student Spotlights

This month, the student spotlight is on Sam Decker. Sam is a senior at WHA, and he plans to go to Northwest College in Powell, WY, after he graduates. His goal is to study welding at NWC, and to one day combine his welding and CDL skills. Sam says that attending White Hawk has helped him improve his work ethics and his attendance. A couple fun facts about Sam is he can seem rude but he's actually nice. In his spare time, Sam likes to skate board and fly fish, and his favorite color is green. When asked about who he looks up to, Sam mentioned Mr. Aagard and Mrs. Kirby because Mr. Aagard showed him that he has potential, and Sam looks up to Mrs. Kirby because of her hard work. Some words that describe him are respectful, determined, and loyal.

Another student we interviewed was Finn Kellogg. Finn is a Junior at WHA, and her plan after high school is to get a blue collar job. Finn says that attending high school has helped her become more open to people, and it has helped her become willing to try new things. Her favorite colors are pink and grey. Finn’s favorite hobbies are skateboarding and playing video games. Some words that describe Finn are adventures, intelligent, and courageous. When asked about who she looks up to, Finn mentioned Mrs. Kirby because she's smart and gets things done.

Team Building

For this month's team building activity WHA students got to visit Central Wyoming College in Riverton. We got to tour the campus, and we also got the opportunity to see what the dorms look like. After the college tour, we went to the pumpkin patch in Riverton. The students had a lot of fun going through the corn maze and looking at all the pumpkins. All the students at WHA look forward to the team-building activity each month, which motivates them to keep their grades up and show up on time.

Prevention Coalition

Some White Hawk students wanted to be a part of the prevention coalition meeting, so we got the opportunity to go and see what they do during those meetings. It's a meeting that is held once a month, and they talk about how they help people who are addicted to drugs and alcohol. There are a variety of people who come to the meetings such as police officers, hospital workers, and other people in the community. One thing that stood out to us is that the Lighthouse, Washakie County Sheriff's Department, and the Worland Police Department are all short-handed.
