White Hawk Academy

What is WHA?
White Hawk Academy is a school for kids that needed a new learning environment that was smaller and could help achieve their needs. WHA has approximately 20 students and 3 teachers, a para, and a secretary/counselor. WHA is giving all of us new opportunities and new learning experiences.
Early Year Highlights of WHA
At WHA, our classes are tiny and that gives us more of an opportunity to have one-on-one time with a teacher. In a way, we get to go at our own pace rather than being rushed into finishing an assignment, we have the time to process and learn, and we are able to actually retain the information we are taking in.
The New Teachers
This year at WHA we have gotten two new teachers. Shania Wright is our new Math and Science teacher. Clay Cundall is our new English, Yearbook, and Lifetime Fitness teacher. We also have Christina Vickers, who teaches US History, Government, and creative writing.
Having new teachers, new students, and new schedules is new to everyone this year, so we are all learning as we go. All the teachers at WHA are easy to talk to when you're struggling with homework or whether you just need someone to talk to.
First Week of School
The first week of school we were able to get to know our teachers more. We also did some team-building activities where we talked about relationships, what bad habits we don't want to continue in our lives, and what we want our future to look like.
Back to School BBQ
The back-to-school BBQ was fun. We helped set up the food and the tables, and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Students were able to talk to new classmates along with new teachers. The back-to-school BBQ established a constructive, welcoming environment.
Friday Team Building
For our first team-building activities, we went to Meadowlark. Students were able to go hiking, go to the lookout tower, fish, and swim. It was a time for laughter and fun. We got to learn new things about each other. It was fun to explore new things as a class.
Reminder for the Seniors
This year for the yearbook we will be adding the seniors' baby pictures along with their senior pictures. We would also like to have them pick a quote.
The due date will be October 27th, no later than October 30th.
If you don't turn in a picture, we will use your school one.
